Colouring our White World

It seems this cold and snow is never going to end! This week, we brainstormed WHITE things and then we used food colouring to add some colour to them!  We discovered that some materials absorb colour (the colour spreads out and sinks in) and some materials don't allow the liquid colour to be absorbed so well.
Look at our beautiful experiments....

Colour in Snow....

"It's beautiful! It looks like a big cake with pretty frosting!"

Colour in Salt, Sugar and Flour....

"The colour sunk into the salt.  It is absorbing the colour!"

"It all stuck together in balls.  It looks like gummy candies or jellybeans!"

Colour on paper, tissue paper, paper plate and paper doilies....

"The tissue paper absorbed the best.  All the colours spread and it looks like pom poms!"

Colour in milk....

"It looks like chocolate milk with some pink in it.  It won't taste good though!"

Colour in glue, shaving cream and cotton balls...

.
"The shaving cream is my favourite.  It smells like my dad!"
"The shaving cream is my favourite.  It looks good to eat!
"The shaving cream is my favourite.  I like the way the colours spread out."
"The colour looks darker when you put it on the cotton.  The red looks like black!"
"The glue feels sticky.  The cotton feels soft.  The shaving cream is squishy and it looks like fluffy clouds!"

Colouring with puffy paint....

This week, we had the opportunity to visit Cafe Francais to experience the french culture.

We also measured objects with cubes and solved problems at the "Marble Den"....

Some of our students showed interest in Pokemon so we decided to do a little research on the IPads to find the name and powers of their personally selected Pokemon figure.  Then, we put all the research together to make a class book!

And as always, we worked on team building, communication, respect and friendship!

Looking forward to more learning and fun next week!
