A snow angel party! Making "cloud dough" snow with Ms. Stiles, our co-op student from the University of Windsor.... |
We read several books about snowmen but the children especially loved, Sneezy the Snowman...
In this story, the snowman was always cold and wanted to be warm.
If we made our own "Sneezy" could we keep him warm inside our classroom?
Many students said it would melt because it was too warm inside for snowmen.
How long would he take to melt?
What would he look like as he melted?
So we built a little snowman named Sneezy and we set out to observe the melting process!
A freshly made "Sneezy". |
"He has 3 balls of snow, 2 buttons on his body, 1 hat on his head, 2 eyeballs, 2 Q Tip arms." |
"He is melting. He lost his eyes, a button and an arm!" |
"His hat fell off and then he lost his head!" |
"Oops! There goes his other arm!" |
"There's dirt in the water!" |
""I think he's going to be all broken soon!"
"The bottom of the snowman is a different colour. It's see - through!" |
One of the students came up with the idea to write a speech bubble
saying, "Make me brand new!" which was what Sneezy said several times in the story.

Almost completely melted.... |
Finally, at 11:45, Sneezy melted into a big puddle. It took Sneezy 1 hour and 45 minutes to melt, bit by bit. |
Painting with coloured snow! (shaving cream with food colouring)
The children were thrilled with the way the "snow" felt and how messy their hands got!
Exploring new instruments this week....
